A Survey of Literary Translation into Tuvan article Vitaly Voinov Central Asiatic Journal, Jahrgang 65 (2023), Ausgabe 1-2, Seite 81 - 105 The present article surveys the history of the translation of literary works into the Tuvan language of south Siberia. The first half catalogues some of the more important works translated into Tuvan, dividing these into the pre-Soviet, Soviet and post-Soviet periods, with a focus on the ideological background that influenced the selection of materials for translation during these historical periods. The second half describes two literary translation projects into Tuvan that the author was personally involved in over the past quarter century, namely the translation of: 1) the Bible, and 2) C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series. The Phonology of Head-Rhyme in Tuvan Versification research-article Lyudmila Mizhit, Vitaly Voinov Central Asiatic Journal, Jahrgang 62 (2019), Ausgabe 2, Seite 149 - 174 Poetry in the Tuvan language (Turkic family, south Siberia) uses a versification system known as strophic alliteration or head-rhyme. The specific pairs of vowels and consonants that are licensed to rhyme with each other shed light on several features of Tuvan phonology which are not immediately obvious from other areas of Tuvan grammar. The present research demonstrates the usefulness of studying poetic features of oral literature for the sake of advancing linguistic analysis.
